San Cristóbal de las Casas

Former capital of Chiapas, sitting in the small valley of Jovel, San Cristóbal has been forgotten since. Until the tough wake-up call of January 1994 when the whole world focused its attention on the city, because of the EZLN's occupation, thereby protesting against the poverty of this region, mostly populated by Indians.
