Sámos is in fact in Greece, but it's only 1 mile away from Turkey. Crossing over from Kuşadası takes only one hour. Sámos is a rugged island and has a long tradition of wine production. Do give a try to the resin-flavored Retsina or the famous Sámos Muscat. Sámos is also renowned for giving birth to Pythagoras, "inventor" of the ever-famous theorem, and illustrating the cultural importance of the island during the classical Hellenistic period.
